Original research article should be a comprehensive description of significant findings, whereas notes shall be limited to 1500 words. Review articles updating current topics shall be entertained by invitation only. A commentary on any specific field covered by the Journal shall be limited to 500 words without any figure or table. Critical commentary on any article of this Journal shall be referred to the author(s) of the original paper for opinion and accepted response shall be published in the same issue.

All papers will be evaluated for scientific content, technical importance and significance by two independent reviewers of international repute and editor

2. Preparation of text.

  (i)

General guidelines. The original text must be printed on laser printer, doublespaced on 8.5-x11-inch/ A4 size paper on one side only, original inked drawings of structural formulas, figures and original black and white print of photographs must be attached for direct reproduction. Additional sets may be photoduplicated copies. Only standard abbreviations should be used throughout the text. Any nonstandard abbreviation must be defined in the text following first use. Author(s) should provide correct nomenclature conforming with current international usage, similar to those used by Chemical Abstracts Service, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology etc. Only chemical/generic names for drugs should be used throughout the text. After the first mention, any identification/abbreviation may be used. As far as possible trade names and laboratory codes should be avoided. To establish identity and purity of new compounds, sufficient data including elemental analysis must be presented

Illustrations must fit one-or two-column format of the journal. Chemical structures should be accurately drawn in single or double column width and be submitted as high contrast material for direct reproduction. A pattern should be presented as simple cross-hatch design. A single column drawing will be preferred. The column width is given below :

  Sl.No Width Single Double
1 minimum   90 mm
2 maximum 80 mm 165 mm
3 Maximum depth 230 mm 230 mm

Spectral data : Routine spectral data for each compound need not be included in the text. For novel compounds and in structural elucidation, to interpret band shape or structure, it should be incorporated in the text.

Biological data : Biological data may be presented as numerical expressions or in graphical form. Novel biological experimental procedure must be described at length/already published procedures must be referred in the text to enable others to repeat the same. Statistical significance of biological data is important. Doses and concentrations should be expressed as molar quantities. The routes of administration of test compounds and vehicles should be included.

Author(s) should write in clear, concise English. Where English is NOT the first language we strongly recommend that the text be reviewed for English grammar prior to submission. The responsibility for all aspects of text preparation rests with the authors. Extensive changes or rewriting of the text will not be undertaken by the editors.

  (ii)
Electronic version. General guidelines : The final accepted version of the paper must be submitted in electronic form along with a hardcopy version of the same. The version on the disk MUST exactly match the final version accepted and the hardcopy. The entire text including the heading, abstract, body of the paper, figure captions, scheme or chart captions, tabular material, footnotes, and references should be in one file, with the complete text first followed by tabular materials exactly in the sequence in which it has to be printed . It is best to use the fonts “Times” and “Symbol”.

  (iii)
Format of text : Heading of the paper should be on a separate page, with author’s names, complete address of the laboratory where the research was conducted, name & address of the corresponding author with telephone number and e-mail ID. Separate sheet should be used for the abstract. References and footnotes, tables and figure legends should be grouped on separate sheets, in proper sequence. Each page should be numbered consecutively. Current address of every author, if different, should be given on the title page with a numerical superscript and footnote.

  (iv)
Heading : Heading of the paper is very useful for easy reference and retrieval. It should reflect the content. Symbols, formulas, or arbitrary abbreviations should not be included in it except chemical symbols for isotopically labeled compounds.

  (v)
Abstract : The abstract should be shelf explanatory (limited to 200 words in one paragraph) suitable for reproduction without change. Footnotes or undefined abbreviations need not be used.

  (vi)
Key words : Maximum five words in italics may be used, each separated by semicolon(;). Key words should appear immediately after the abstract on the same page.

  (vii)
Experimental : The experimental procedures should be given in detail to enable others to repeat them. Names of products and manufacturers (with address) must be mentioned. Brand names may be used only once in the manuscript. On subsequent occasions they may be identified as “product X” or "formulation Y", etc. Novel experimental procedures should be explained at length, and published ones should be identified by citation. The purity of compounds and description(s) of the method(s) used
to verify the same should be included in this section. Strength of the reagents should be given accurately. Precautions for handling hazardous chemicals and dangerous procedures should be clearly mentioned and precautions to be observed while handling them must be explained or references cited.

  (viii)
Results : The results of the experiment should be presented concisely. Tables and figures should be devised in such a manner that the findings are accurately conveyed. The same data should not be used for more than one figure or table. Interpretation of the data should be given in the discussion.

  (ix)
Tables : Tables are effective means of presentation. Tables should be numbered consecutively, and provided with caption. Footnotes should be identified by lower case letters and cited in the tables as italicized superscripts. All tables should be cited in the text.

  (x)
Supplementary information : The journal will entertain any type of supplementary figures or data like, reproductions of spectra, equipment, tables, detailed discussion of related findings, etc. For the format of such information any International Journal may be referred. It may be submitted in quadruplicate on 8.5- x 11 –inch/A4 Paper, which may be reproduced directly. Legends for figures, spectra, etc., must be given on the figures, spectra itself.

  (xi)
Discussion : The discussion must interpret the results and relate them to existing knowledge on the topic in as lucid a manner as possible, avoiding repetition or duplication of information. It should not be unnecessarily lengthy.

  (xii)
Acknowledgments : The author should acknowledge advice from colleagues, financial/technical assistance, gifts, etc. after obtaining consent from the people whose assistance is acknowledged.

  (xiii)
References : The references must be numbered consecutively in order of mention in the text, with numbers as superscripts. The author must ensure perfection of the references. It should be typed double-spaced on separate page(s) at the end of the text. Formal pattern of reference presentation is given below: For journals: Morris KR, et al. Int J Pharm. 1994; 105: 209. For edited books: Flynn GL. In Topical Drug Bioavailability, Bioequivalence, and Penetration. Shah VP, Maibach HI, eds. New York: Plenum Press, 1993, p 369. Formally accepted papers may be referred as “in press” and For other communications “unpublished data” may be used, after names of authors.

3.
Proofs and Reprints : Accepted paper’s proofs will be sent to the author for verification against the original and appropriate corrections made. An order form for reprints will be sent with the proofs. Please return the reprint order form with a cheque of Rs.1000/=(India)/US$100(abroad) in favor of Journal of Pharmaceutical Research, Bangalore. Reprints will be posted within 15 days after printing the journal.

4.
Forwarding Address : Two copies of the manuscript must be submitted together with a forwarding letter and a signed Copyright Transfer Agreement to the Chief Editor, Journal of Pharmaceutical Research, Krupanidhi College of Pharmacy, #5, Sarjapur Road, Koramangala, Bangalore-560034. India. Email- krupanidhi2003@rediffmail.com. Correspondence regarding accepted papers, proofs, and reprints should be addressed to the Chief Editor directly.
